Good's Candy Shop

Evan and I ran up to Good's Candy Shop yesterday. It's about 20 minutes away, so we decided we'd check it out since we're on Spring Break. It was a small place, but it did have chocolate. Yum! Evan even got a free chocolate sucker (pictured) for coloring a page we printed off the Internet. :-) He beat it against the countertop, so it busted in two pieces. He got to share it with me at that point.

Whew.

Evan concentrates really hard when he's reading a book.

Evan is wearing big boy underpants (sometimes). He's never been a cold turkey kid, so we're gradually transitioning.

Evan is taking his own dishes to the sink.

Evan is enjoying a shake from Frosty Boy (who has the best shakes in the world).

Evan has his keys and sunglasses so he can get ready to go.

Well, at the time of my last post, Evan had been dealing with a nasty stomach bug. He woke up on Saturday morning as good as new, but I woke up with a nasty stomach bug. :-( It lasted about 36 hours. I even had to call Mike to come home from baseball practice early because I couldn't move. Evan was a sweetie though - he kept patting and kissing my head telling me, "It's ok Baby Mommy." We thought we were all better last Monday, and then Evan got sick again. Yuck. Auntie stayed home with him on Tuesday, and finally we think we're all better (knock on wood) since it's been about a week since anyone has gotten sick. Unfortunately, we passed it on to Evan's sitter (and a lot of the kids that go there). We feel bad about that.

I've tried 3 times to post pictures, but the Blogger site is being pesky right now. I'll try again later. :-(

Heebie Jeebies

My dad calls them the heebie jeebies - it means you're sick. Evan's got them - bad. Poor kid. It all started on Tuesday night - Evan's Ti (My sister - Andria - Auntie) came over while Mike and I met some friends out for dinner. I got a phone call at the end of dinner that said Evan puked in bed. I was planning on staying home on Wednesday anyway to scour the house since we had all taken a turn with sickness for the past couple of weeks. I hung out with Evan on Wednesday - he got sick, but was on the mend (or so we thought). On the way to the sitter's on Thursday morning, he got sick again in Mike's car (and again and again later in the day). Evan's doctor said it's one of those no-fever flu bugs that lingers. Having a 2 year old that doesn't understand puking is not fun - let's say that my carpet has taken a beating this week. Here are a couple of pathetic pictures of Evan. I let him have a cookie because the doctor said give him whatever he asks for to eat because at least he's eating. No getting sick today - but we're not back up to the full "Yeah" strength.

Shamrock Run/Walk

Andria, Evan and I went downtown to do the 4 mile Shamrock Run/Walk yesterday morning. Poor Mike had class and couldn't join us. :-( Evan was a good boy. We walked a few blocks to the Circle where the Soldiers and Sailors Monument is. We explored it, ran up steps, fed ducks, and then went on our walk. Evan wanted to walk a little bit - and then we made him get back in the stroller because he is much like the kids in the Family Circus cartoon in that a straight line doesn't happen when he's walking. He takes several detours - but we were already at the back of the pack, so we had to get moving. He was a good boy for the most part, and we had fun. It was chilly, so he bundled up and ate cheesy poofs for a while.

Outside :(

We had a taste of spring on Wednesday where the temperature surpassed 70 degrees. It made for a fun afternoon of playing at the playground after work for Evan. It also made for a disappointing Thursday when it rained (and was a bit colder). Here is Evan - desperately wanting to go outside - right after I changed his diaper. He put his shoe on and was very upset that the clouds had come to rain. He even told me we needed to figure out a way to make them leave. Poor kid.

Sick Evan :(

Evan came down with a fever on Thursday afternoon. He let me take his temperature (which is rare) and he came down the stairs and said, "I'm cold. I want my mommy." He cuddled up on the couch with me, and then out of nowhere he started crying. In the past few months, I've come to figure out that crying means he's going to puke. Unfortunately, it's only about a 7 second heads-up. Evan got sick on his blankets, himself, the couch, and me. My son is officially a puker. Some people are (me), and some people aren't (Mike). We thought Evan was an "aren't" for a long time because he maybe puked twice in 2-1/2 years. He's puked about 7-8 times in the last 3 months. Gross, I know, but you know - that's parenthood. Here are a couple of pictures of Evan on the mend this weekend.

Underpants

We are trying to ease Evan into potty training. He's never been a cold turkey kid with any of his transitions (sleeping all night, bottle to cup, bye bye pacifier, bye bye crib, the list goes on). The other day after school, I was changing his diaper and I gave him a choice: 1) get a new diaper 2) wear underpants. To my surprise, he chose underpants. I had to take a couple of pictures of him in his boxer-briefs. It lasted for about 45 minutes when I went to go check on him and sit him on the potty again. He had already peed himself and was hanging out with wet pants and wet shirts (and was totally fine with it). We'll keep plugging away at it - and hopefully by June 20 (his 3rd birthday), we'll get this figured out. To quote Evan's Grandma Mary, "Girls at 2 and Boys at 3." Sounds good to me because Evan has no interest at 2 (as of right now). :-)

Batter Up!

Mike and Evan were taking batting practice in the living room the other day. Evan decided his knight's helmet was appropriate head gear for the occasion.

Baking for Mommy

Evan has discovered our unplugged toaster oven at the bottom of the pantry. He likes to put coasters, cars, etc., on it and pretend he's baking dinner for Mommy. He goes all out and gets the oven mitts out of the drawer as well. It's so cute.

Cheese Pizza Friday Picnic!

Since Lent is upon us, and Michael and Evan are Catholic, we observe "no meat" Fridays (ok - well, Mike does - Evan's a little young yet). For the last two Friday nights, we've had meatless pizza (which is ok with me since I only eat red meat once a month anyway). Here are some pictures of our picnic on the family room carpet last week. Please notice Evan's lemonade in his Murphy's koozie. This part was done on his own, which makes Mike proud, since Murphy's is a bar outside of Wrigley Field in Chicago.
